LLWS RECAP: Newcastle (Ind.) 4, Gresham (Ore.) National 0

Newcastle, Ind. broke a scoreless tie in the fifth inning, erupting for four runs on the way to a 4-0 victory over Gresham National (Ore.) in a Little League World Series match on Friday at Lamade Stadium in Williamsport, Pa.

Newcastle, representing the Great Lakes Region, scored what proved to be the game winning run when outfielder Cory Murphy came home from third with one out on a wild pitch.

Winning pitcher Niah Williamson worked the final 2 2/3 innings. He walked one, struck out three and held Gresham, representing the Northwest region, hitless.

The Indiana team advanced to a Sunday date with McAllister Park National from San Antonio, Texas. McAllister, representing the Southwest region, claimed a 5-2 victory over New Jersey's Par Troy East earlier Friday.

Also Friday, Panama's Aguadulce Cabezera used a five-run second inning to sprint past Uganda's Lugazill on the way to a 9-3 victory. Aguadulce Cabezera, representing Latin America, got a solid two-inning outing from winning pitcher Julio Goff. He struck out seven, walked two and gave up one hit and a run.
