Will Lucas didn't give up a hit and walked just one batter as Fairfield (Conn.) American improved to 2-1 in Little League World Series play on Monday with a 4-0 triumph over New Castle, Ind., in Williamsport, Pa.
Lucas, who worked all six innings for his no-hitter, struck out 13 batters and issued the lone walk in the fourth.
Fairfield, representing the Northeast Region, scored two runs in the second and a pair in the fifth. Catcher Biagio Paoletta went 2-for-3 and scored a run. Lucas helped his own cause with a two RBIs on a fifth-inning single.
New Castle, representing the Great Lakes Region, is now 1-2 in the World Series.
Also Monday, Fernando Benavides and Joel Turrubiates scored runs on a third-inning Chinese Taipei errors to help lead Oriente of Nuevo Laredo, Mexico, to a 4-3 victory on Monday. Trailing 2-1 entering the bottom of the third, Oriente, representing the Mexico Region, pushed three runs across and improved to 2-1. Taipei's Quei-Shan team, representing the Asia-Pacific Region, is now 1-2.
