Tiger Woods could use a ninth win at the WGC-Bridgestone to qualify for the FedExCup Playoffs and ease …

Due to an internal error, this week's chat replay appears in a different format. This is a one-time occurrence. Here was today's poll question and results:

Assuming we’re in agreement that Tiger Woods is the favorite, who do you expect to challenge him the most at the Masters?

Rory McIlroy = 8%

Phil Mickelson = 38%

Justin Rose = 8%

Adam Scott = 23%

Bubba Watson = 0%

OTHER = 23%

Rob Bolton:

Greetings, gang!!!!!

12:00
Rob Bolton:

The winter thaw must have ended because it's time for the Masters.

12:01
Rob Bolton:

You won't convince anyone in the High Plains of that today, but the calendar doesn't lie.

12:01

Rob Bolton:
We're expecting a very busy chat, so I'm modifying the format a bit.

12:02

Rob Bolton:
Rather than plug in our various features for your review when it makes sense, I'm going to link all of them right now.

12:02

Rob Bolton:
After that, Glass will hop in and we'll start taking your Qs.

12:02

Glass:
Copy and paste, folks!

Ah, there he is!

Dammit, I bogeyed that intro.

Rob Bolton:
Couple of standard rules for your Qs and comments ...

12:03

Rob Bolton:
First, if you want only one of us to respond, Glass promises he won't take it personally. Just preface your submission with "Glass" or "Rob."

12:04

Rob Bolton:
Second, for all lineup questions that require context, please provide it.

12:04

Rob Bolton:
There are guys that are worth a start in some formats but not others. Do not assume that we know which game you play.

In a fantasy golf league, can pick up to 10 golfers based on their WGC ranking. Aside from Tiger, who are the ones you take?

Buckle up tight Glass.....there will probably be math this week!

Rob - What role will the weather play on Thursday and Friday. Advantage to an AM or PM time on Thursday? Does rain hurt some peoples chances?

12:07

Glass:
Now, live from the rotoworld.comweather studio, Weatherman Rob

12:08

Rob Bolton:
You know, I once worked alongside former Weather Channel meteorologist Melissa Barrington. We shared the studio in college at NIU. She taught me everything she knew.

12:09

Rob Bolton:
Bill, the winds are forecast to freshen on Thursday afternoon, so I'm probably going to lean on A.M. wavers tomorrow.

12:10

Rob Bolton:
As always, I'll revisit the forecast later today and tweet about it at @RobBoltonGolf.

12:10

Rob Bolton:
Those that don't normally follow the weather should know that the forecast changes most in relation to the wind.

12:10

Rob Bolton:
I learned this the hard way during the Shell Houston Open that Paul Casey won a few years ago.

12:10

Glass:
4 different directions this year.

12:11

Rob Bolton:
As it turned out, the forecast for winds changed within 24 hours of the opening round.

12:11

Rob Bolton:
And the long-range forecast couldn't have been more wrong.

12:11

Rob Bolton:
So, even as I sit here just after noon ET on Wednesday, my confidence isn't high enough to make an intelligent decision. This is where Twitter comes in handy.

12:12

[Comment From The DoughMeister The DoughMeister : ]
Rob-Glass-and NED: In the Yahoo game, there are six excellent choices at "C." Scott, Schwartzel, Westwood, Poulter, Day and Cabrera. Are we throwing darts here or is there a strategy to picking the best two?

12:12

Rob Bolton:
From chalk to darts, Yahoo! always requires strategy.

12:13

Glass:
I'm going with the players who I feel play THIS COURSE the best. That's Westwood and Scott for me. You could argue you need a "putter" in that group, but I'm riding the chalk, in my opinion.

12:13

Rob Bolton:
The concern would be if you're finding yourself down on starts on a guy with six options.

12:13

Rob Bolton:
Here's my lineup ...
A: Mickelson & Woods (shockers, I know)
B: K. Bradley, Furyk, Kuchar & J. Rose
C: Scott & Westwood

12:14

Rob Bolton:
Now, I plugged that in before looking at tee times, so I may modify just as I did last week.

12:14

Rob Bolton:
Again, I'l tweet my lineup (and any changes) later today.

12:14

[Comment From John-YDF John-YDF : ]
Both: As I see it, the early Thursday / late Friday tee times have the more favourable weather split. I’m trying to load guys, in that position, that also have good GIR’s and good numbers putting inside 10 feet. Do you both concur that the early/late guys have the better deal on the tee time spits this week?

12:15

Rob Bolton:
If you don't mind, John-YDF, I'll wait on Friday until Thursday's action is in the books and Friday's weather forecast is updated.

12:15

Rob Bolton:
But those are encouraging facts, indeed.

12:15

Rob Bolton:
The early bird snatches the worm. John-YDF is in with the next query.

12:16

[Comment From John-YDF John-YDF : ]
I am trying to decide on Colsaerts or Garrigus. Colsaerts putting numbers and lack of control off the tee scares me. Big Robert’s putting and driving accuracy are no better, but his All Around is much better even if he is limping in as I see it. Jack can pass along all his experience to Colsaerts that he wants. But that still won’t help Nic read and execute a putt. Does Garrigus’ one year of experience make him the play?

12:17

Rob Bolton:
John-YDF, without knowing what format you're playing -- context, please -- I'd avoid both guys if possible. Colsaerts is the first-timer and Garrigus hasn't seen a putt he likes in a couple of months.

12:18

Rob Bolton:
Glass?

12:18

Glass:
If these are your only two options, well, that's a tough one. Garrigus has at least seen this course in tournament action. Colsaerts is adjusting to TOUR life.

12:18

Glass:
Garrigus, barely.

12:18

Glass:
The DoughMeister is smart leaving me off the one-and-done questions...

Yahoo! Group C: How do you rank Scott, Westwood and Schwartzel? I have listed them in my preferred order.

12:19

Glass:
I agree

12:20

Glass:
This week, there are no BAD choices, just some that are better than others. Unless you plug in Sandy Lyle...

12:20

Rob Bolton:
Yeah, I think any permutation can be argued successfully. Comes down to in whom *you* have the greatest trust. Although remember that Steve Williams has won three Masters.

12:21

[Comment From Chad Chad : ]
Yahoo! B: I am going with Rose and Bradley. Then need two from Mahan, Oosty, Hansen and DJ. Please rank those 4.

12:21

Rob Bolton:
Surely you mean HansOn as Anders, Søren and Matt didn't qualify.

12:22

Rob Bolton:
Hanson held the 54-hole lead last year and I love the guy. He's my Euro Tour man-crush.

12:22

Ah, the sleeper pick.

12:24

Glass:
Anybody not named Woods, right, Rob?

12:24

There's a website out there that Glass found that cites Oosthuizen as "dark horse."

Glass:
I can't remember! there's 100 games going on at once, pipe down

12:26

Rob Bolton:
While he's searching, Augusta National announced some changes this morning.

12:27

Rob Bolton:
First, the cut is now low 50 and ties plus all within 10 strokes of the lead after 36 holes.

12:27

Glass:
Woods, Westwood, Phil and Rosey. Was the old cut Top 44?

12:27

Rob Bolton:
Second, all winners of the events in the fall that begin the 2013-14 PGA TOUR season will be given an exemption.

12:28

Rob Bolton:
This is in line with the current provision exempting all winners of events awarding full allocation of FedExCup points. Therefore, winners of Puerto Rico, Sanderson Farms and Reno-Tahoe will not be given exemptions.

12:28

Rob Bolton:
(Yes, the old cut was low 44 plus ties and all within 10 strokes of the 36-hole lead.)

12:29

Rob Bolton:
Third, the top 12 plus ties at the Masters will earn a return trip the following year. (The previous provision brought back the top 16 plus ties.)

12:29

Glass:
One thing I love about Augusta is that they play the course all four days from the first tee. No split tees, no Mickey Mouse.

12:29

Rob Bolton:
Last, the top four plus ties at the U.S. Open will be exempt into the Masters the following year. (The previous provision afforded exemptions to the top eight plus ties.)

12:29

[Comment From Dave Dave : ]
Who has a higher finish this year.....Kuchar or Scott?

12:30

Glass:
Again, flip a coin. I'll go with them tying.

12:30

Rob Bolton:
Because Kuchar ranks fifth in my Power Rankings -- Scott is 10th -- I'll go with the American.

12:30

[Comment From The Chief The Chief : ]
Hi Rob/Glass, hope all is well! Our league starts this week and goes thru Dubai, playing both tours. I have room for one more Paddy or Stenson ( I see where Stenson is one of your sleeper)?

12:31

Rob Bolton:
Hey, Chief. I'd like to know who else you have on your roster. Harrington is the safer call but Stenson might pack a little more punch. If you think you have nothing but chalk, then roll with the Swede.

12:31

Glass:
Every time I THINK I get an angle on Harrington, he turns upside down. Stenson would interest me if the reward is a bit higher.

12:31

Rob and Glass - thanks for all the great commentary on the weather!!! Rain lengthens the course which I am assuming hurts some of the guys I like in Mahan, Poulter and Donald....I follow you on twitter so I will pay attention.

Rob Bolton:
Cool. And before anyone asks ... No, I didn't split Melissa Barrington's pants on the dance floor.

Rob, what was most important to you when handicapping this tournament? Is it track history, or recent performance?

12:32

Rob Bolton:
Yes.

12:33

Rob Bolton:
Always a myriad of factors, Rick1V. You know that. However, the Masters requires experience. It's why guys like Hanson and Jacobson didn't appear in my Power Rankings.

Rob Bolton:
Both have favorable track records, but so many more guys have more experience and success.

Furyk's track record around here would push me over with Mahan second

[Comment From jimmy jimmy : ]
Rob - You have Rose #2 in your Power Rankings but pick Phil in a one-and-done?

12:35

Rob Bolton:
Hey, Jimmy. The Power Rankings is not a fantasy feature, nor is it a ranking of my one-and-done selections.

12:35

Rob Bolton:
Just as every reader in this chat maintains a different philosophy and approach toward success, I'm no different.

12:35

Rob Bolton:
I make it quite clear in the one-and-done feature why I'm burning Mickelson.

12:36

Rob Bolton:
Meanwhile, I'll holster Rose for another time.

12:36

[Comment From Pat in Seal Pat in Seal : ]
Yahoo C question... As mentioned above there is a strong group of guys here. I just cant get over how everyone talks about how the greens are difficult to putt, yet scott and westwood are below avg putters. Smarter to pick just one of those and pair them with a guy who roll the rock? (maybe stenson or Poulter?)

12:36

Rob Bolton:
Bubba Watson isn't a great putter either.

12:36

Glass:
I'm going with the best players on this track and those two have history.

12:37

Rob Bolton:
Gotta hit GIR and make birdies on the par 5s. That's the shortcut to a great week.

12:37

Glass:
Scott and Westwood kill GIR, yep

12:37

Rob Bolton:
Gang, in a sense, the Masters is the easiest tournament of the year to play.

12:37

Glass:
birdie all the par 5s

12:37

Rob Bolton:
The chalk often rises because ANGC has a knack for making that happen.

12:38

Rob Bolton:
Another dynamic to which Jack Nicklaus alluded in his presser yesterday is that this is probably the most financiall lucrative victory for anyone in the game. And you know that the golfers love their mone.

Rob Bolton:
Nicklaus wasn't referring to the purse.

Scott, DJ, Furyk, Day for me

Dough. In Group C I took Schwartzel over Westwood because he is playing better right now. I have Westwood in a first-timers Majors pool and I would love to see him win this week, but I haven't been that impressed by his play this season.

Does the Masters have the same payout as the other major tournaments?

12:41

It's comparable to the biggies, Bill. The Masters will announce its purse during the tournament. Last year's was $8 million with $1,440,000.00 going to Watson.

12:41

Glass:
Biggest pay off on TOUR money-wise is THE PLAYERS

[Comment From Cuse Nick Cuse Nick : ]
Tiger won before 3 majors last year. It seems like he is much more of the prohibitive favorite this year. Do you consider his chances better now than this time last year?

12:43

Rob Bolton:
Yes.

12:43

Glass:
Of course. He's healthy, he's happy and he can practice as much as he wants. Huge factors.

12:44

Glass:
And that Sean Foley stuff seems to work. Ask him, Rose, Mahan

12:44

Rob Bolton:
The media covers Woods more than anyone else, so we need to remember that our intake is apples and oranges as compared to other golfers in any other week.

12:44

Rob Bolton:
This is to say that once someone lays down any debate on Woods, it'll spread like wildfire because any conversation on Woods always does. Can't miss that party.

12:45

Rob Bolton:
But Woods confirmed in his presser that he has balance once again in his life. Say what you want about his public admittance to his infidelity, but he's human and that had to have a positive impact down deep. It's taken some time to rebound.

12:46

Rob Bolton:
With Foley's coaching and life outside the ropes in order (a relative term), he's all the way back.

[Comment From Da Volk Da Volk : ]
BOTH: Am I crazy for rolling the dice with Adam Scott in my one-and-done league?

12:51

Rob Bolton:
You're not going to find an investor with me, Da Volk.

12:51

Glass:
Check this out. At No. 1 Woods is +16; at No. 2, par 5, he's -28...

12:51

Glass:
Holes that is

12:52

Glass:
If you have burned Phil and Woods, I guess you could use Scott

12:52

Rob Bolton:
No. 1 is one of the most difficult starting holes on any course the TOUR plays all year.

12:52

Rob Bolton:
Da Volk, if you're still sitting on Woods, then burn him this week. If he's gone but Mickelson is available, then go with the lefty.

12:53

Rob Bolton:
Otherwise, Scott is a sound play. See, it's always relative.

12:53

[Comment From Randy Randy : ]
Coming in late so if this has been addressed, please ignore. Why are folks so jazzed about Phil this week? Only thing I see going is his history...not much else IMO.

12:53

Rob Bolton:
First, Randy, there's always a seat for you, sir.

12:53

Rob Bolton:
Second, that's quite a commentary -- "not much else" -- regarding his history.

12:53

Rob Bolton:
For me, it's 98 percent of the reason why I lean on him at this tournament.

12:54

Rob Bolton:
And you guys know that I'm a "recent form" kind of investor.

12:54

Glass:
He knows he's running out of Masters. He finished SHO 67-68.

12:55

Rob Bolton:
Randy is the kind of gamer that complains that his drink is too warm at the gentleman's club.

12:55

Rob Bolton:
(All in good run, Randy.)

12:55

Rob Bolton:
*fun, rather.

12:56

[Comment From Don Don : ]
Good Morning to you both from the beautiful PNW. Need help in my two and done league. Out of the top 20 rankings, I have used all but 8, Phil,Rory,Haas,Westwood,Oosy,McDowell,Donald,Choi. I am taking Phil, but which other would be a good choice? Is there someone else that I should think about, like Hanson or??

12:56

Glass:
Or...

12:57

Rob Bolton:
That's for us to answer, Glass.

12:57

Rob Bolton:
And that wasn't even a math question.

12:57

Rob Bolton:
Put down the bottle, partner...

12:57

Glass:
I operate in 140 characters or less, sadly

12:57

Rob Bolton:
You're the only character we need, buddy.

12:58

Glass:
You handle this one

12:58

Rob Bolton:
Don, it's funny you mention Hanson because just before our chat started, I told the listeners on SiriusXM that he'd be my pick for a two-man one-and-done.

12:58

Rob Bolton:
The show re-airs this afternoon if you don't believe me.

12:58

[Comment From Randy Randy : ]
Hey man, don't knock the 50+ group. :-)

12:58

Glass:
Couples > Singh

12:59

Rob Bolton:
Oh, I know plenty of seniors that are still in denial, Randy!

12:59

[Comment From LARRY JR. LARRY JR. : ]
Have you guys been to the Masters? Played at all there?

12:59

Rob Bolton:
I frolicked last year but I didn't get to play.

12:59

Glass:
I went on Monday in 2011. Best place on Earth. No playing for me either.

1:00

Rob Bolton:
In my one visit, former Rotoworld columnist Johnny Mac and I spent Wednesday on the property.

1:00

Rob Bolton:
This chat last year was on Tuesday as a result of me traveling to get there.

1:00

Rob Bolton:
No such luck this year.

1:00

Glass:
Next year, let's do the chat from Augusta!
Everyone wins

1:00

[Comment From Ryan O Ryan O : ]
Mickelson currently tied for the lead at 3-under (7) in the Par 3. If he wins, we can all thank Glass.

1:01

Glass:
Yikes

1:01

Glass:
Phil knows his history. He'll dump it on 9

1:01

Rob Bolton:
Mickelson is exactly the kind of guy that you'd expect to deviate from that ridiculous "curse" or whatever you want to call it.

1:01

Glass:
OR BE HAUNTED BY IT

1:01

Rob Bolton:
Checking in on Randy, he's clearly been drinky ...

1:01

[Comment From Randy Randy : ]
LOLROFLM$O

1:02

Rob Bolton:
We'll wait until the room stops spinning.

1:02

[Comment From LARRY JR. LARRY JR. : ]
Are you guys golf "experts" or comedians?

1:02

Glass:
Sadly, neither

1:02

Rob Bolton:
That's for you to decide. We're just trying to have a good time.

1:03

[Comment From Bill (Grosse Pointe MI) Bill (Grosse Pointe MI) : ]
Out of the 4 majors is the British pay the most to winner I believe...

1:03

Glass:
Exchange rate victory

1:04

Rob Bolton:
Last year, all four majors had a purse of $8 million.

1:04

Glass:
1,452,078 to Ernie

1:04

Rob Bolton:
But as Glass correctly stated -- despite the math involved -- fewer U.S. dollars are awarded at the British.

1:04

Rob Bolton:
?
I have Els down for $1,405,890.

1:05

Glass:
See, I start fooling around with math.

1:05

[Comment From Guest Guest : ]
Need to pick three out of Stenson, Piercy, Colsaerts, and Manassero. Who do I go with?

1:05

Glass:
Eliminate Colsaerts.

1:05

Rob Bolton:
If it's soft, Manassero could struggle.

1:05

Rob Bolton:
That's where Colsaerts could shine.

1:06

Glass:
30% rain means 70% it won't. #math

1:06

Rob Bolton:
The question is if he's throttle back. how much as he learned this week?

1:06

Rob Bolton:
Piercy is also a first-timer, so I'm slow to his trigger, too.

1:07

Rob Bolton:
I love young blood in terms of putting, so I'm with Glass in a vacuum -- and damn is it loud in here -- eliminate Colsaerts.

1:07

[Comment From Guest Guest : ]
What do you think of Coetzee at Augusta?

1:07

Rob Bolton:
See my Sleepers linked at the top. Thanks.

1:08

Rob Bolton:
BTW, for those of you (e.g. Randy) that disagree with burning Mickelson, today's poll question should sway you properly.

1:08

[Comment From G-Mac G-Mac : ]
At 50 to 1 to win, don't I seem like the best value bet around?

1:08

Glass:
You have admitted you don't prefer drawing the golf ball.

1:09

Rob Bolton:
You know, Graeme, I don't look at the odds, so I can't answer that intelligently. However, I'd lay a sawbuck down on you.

1:09

[Comment From Awaiting Augusta Awaiting Augusta : ]
Both - Haas is having an excellent year, but haven't heard anything about him. Any particular reason why?

1:09

Rob Bolton:
As always, it depends on when you listen/watch.

1:09

Glass:
His history at this event is quiet. He's kinda like a young Matt Kuchar where he's won a big one (TOUR champ) but not a major.

1:10

Rob Bolton:
There's been some commentary on Golf Channel and CBS Sports Network. As far as what you've read, both Glass and I are on board.

1:10

Glass:
Yep!

1:11

Rob Bolton:
Haas sold me at Redstone, gang.

1:11

Rob Bolton:
He was 0-for-4 before sharing 10th two weeks ago.

1:11

[Comment From James James : ]
I am running out of starts left for Woods in Yahoo. I will start him in A group this week obviously but other than the other three majors, which other tourney's should I plug him in for sure the rest of this season? Great job, gents!

1:11

Rob Bolton:
Hey, James. Woods' starts always boils down to a ranking since you get only 10.

1:12

Rob Bolton:
Not knowing how many you have left, events I'd avoid include THE PLAYERS, The Open Championship, The Barclays and the BMW.

1:12

Rob Bolton:
Various reasons for each.

1:12

Glass:
BMW at Conway Farms where Luke Donald lives

1:13

Rob Bolton:
Save him for the Memorial, AT&T National, WGC-Bridgestone, Deutsche Bank and TOUR Championship.

1:13

Glass:
*part of the time

1:13

Rob Bolton:
FTR, Donald lives in Evanston, which is several miles south of Lake Forest where Conway Farms is located. Donald is a member there.

1:14

Rob Bolton:
Certainly, we'll consider Woods at the U.S. Open and PGA Championship, too.

1:14

[Comment From The DoughMeister The DoughMeister : ]
I've been fortunate to have gone to The Masters over 20 times...the first time when I was 12. I can tell you this - it never gets old. I still get goosebumps every time I walk on that property!

1:14

Glass:
was A340Spotter with you then as well?

1:14

Rob Bolton:
Dough even has a bathroom facility named after him. I used it!

1:15

[Comment From A.J. A.J. : ]
I am surprised Rose is getting so little Love in the poll. I have burned Tiger and Phil, and I think Rose is so due for that major breakthrough.

1:15

Rob Bolton:
Perfect scenario for burning Rose, gang.

1:15

[Comment From Ned Ned : ]
Wow. No love in the poll for Bubba. I'm surprised by that.

1:15

Glass:
The only things that are due in life are your taxes and pregnant women. He's playing well enough to win, no doubt.

1:15

Rob Bolton:
Well, Ned, apparently you didn't vote him either. "0%"

1:16

[Comment From Ryan Moore Ryan Moore : ]
No one is talking about me. Since '05 I have only played here 3 times but have finished 13th, 14th, and 35th. People love Piercy, Coetzee, and Lynn as sleepers over me. Why do I get NO respect?

1:16

Glass:
The only guys to repeat here are Jack, Faldo and Woods. No offense, bubba

1:16

Rob Bolton:
Read my Fantasy Insider, Ryan.

1:17

Glass:
Ryan's form has been quite miserable as of late.

1:17

Rob Bolton:
But Ryan brings up a good point. Course history favors many at ANGC, but for the fringe among the elite like Moore, although some would classify him among the best of the rank and file, course history isn't as valuable.

1:17

[Comment From Ryan O Ryan O : ]
Lefty birdies the ninth....clubhouse leader by two at 4-under 23.

1:17

Glass:
How many groups left on the course?!?!?!?!

1:17

Rob Bolton:
RyanO provided Par 3 Contest updates = A tradition unlike any other. There, I said it.

1:18

Rob Bolton:
Or typed it.

[Comment From Randy Randy : ]
Before I have to sign-off, my $ is on the 14-year old kid from China. :-) As always guys, great session!

1:18

Glass:
Your Yen?

1:18

Rob Bolton:
Thanks, Randy. Saw all of your previous comments that I didn't publish. Good stuff.

[Comment From Ned Ned : ]
I think Luke has moved up to Northfield as his family has expanded. Northfield is a couple of suburbs North and a little West of Evanston.

1:19

Rob Bolton:
Ah. Didn't know that.

1:19

Rob Bolton:
My wife worked for a sports agency in Northfield for three years in the '90s. Lovely town/village.

Rob Bolton:

[Comment From The DoughMeister The DoughMeister : ]
Glass: Meeting a340 for the first time tonight at dinner. I was there on the Sunday in 1987 wen Mize chipped in on 11. My problem? I jumped from 10 fairway to get a good viewing spot on 13 and missed the chip in. Oh well...

1:20

Glass:
Tell him hello from me. That's why I wanted to go on Monday.

1:20

Rob Bolton:
And with that unfortunate anecdote, it's a wrap, gang!

1:20

Glass:
I'm worried that I would "miss" something on the weekend.

1:21

Rob Bolton:
Before we go, remember that I'll be hosting a live chat during the final round on Sunday.

1:21

Glass:
What time?

1:21

Rob Bolton:
The time remains TBD until the tee times are posted.

1:22

Rob Bolton:
But I'll probably it up at around noon ET.

1:22

Glass:
Normal weather would be nice this week

1:22

Rob Bolton:
Look for the promotion on the site as well as on Twitter.

Thanks guys. Have a great week everyone.
