NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- — Lipscomb made 37 of 50 free throws, including 9 of 10 in the final minute, to edge intra-city rival Tennessee State 75-70 Monday night.
Martin Smith made all four of his free throws down the stretch and all nine of his in the game en route to 18 points. Denny Talbott led the Bison (2-2) with 22 points, making 11 of 16 free throws. He also had 11 rebounds.
Patrick Miller led Tennessee State (0-5) with 28 points, including making 10 of 12 free throws. The Tigers, off to their worst start since 1999, made 20 of 28 free throws. Reserves Jay Harris had 12 points and Jordan Gaither 11 for Tennessee State.
J.C. Hampton scored the last basket for Lipscomb, a layup with just under 5 minutes left that put the Bison up 62-53. He also hit three of four foul shots in the last minute.
