What's buzzing:

Lions replace Jason Hanson with younger kicker

National Football Post

That didn’t take long.

A day after Jason Hanson announced he was retiring after 21 seasons in the NFL, the Detroit Lions have a new kicker. And they’ve gone with a younger model.

The Lions have replaced the 42-year-old Hanson by agreeing to terms with 38-year-old David Akers, according to his agent Jerrold Colton. How about that for making the roster younger?

Akers kicked for the San Francisco 49ers last season and struggled coming off offseason surgery. He was only 29 of 42 on field goals and the team nearly replaced him on its postseason roster. Akers is a six-time Pro Bowl performer and it is likely the Lions will bring in a younger kicker to compete for the job.
