The SportsXchange

New Detroit Lions coach Jim Caldwell added to his staff on Friday, naming Teryl Austin as defensive coordinator and Bill Sheridan as linebackers coach.

Caldwell also retained special teams coordinator John Bonamego, offensive assistant Terry Heffernan, offensive line assistant Bobby Johnson, defensive line coaches Kris Kocurek and Jim Washburn, running backs coach Curtis Modkins, Evan Rothstein and offensive line coach Jeremiah Washburn.

Austin, 48, moves to the Lions with Caldwell from the Baltimore Ravens, where he was the defensive backs coach for the previous three seasons. He also has worked for the Seattle Seahawks (2003-05) and Arizona Cardinals (2007-09) and was defensive coordinator for the Florida Gators in 2010. Other college jobs include Michigan and Wake Forest, where he coached under Caldwell for three seasons.

Sheridan, a Detroit native, was the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' defensive coordinator the past two seasons. His previous stops include the New York Giants as linebackers coach (2005-08) and defensive coordinator (2009) and the Miami Dolphins (2010-11) as linebackers coach.

The Lions are still searching for an offensive coordinator. The Detroit Free Press reported potential candidates include Kansas City Chiefs assistant head coach David Culley, Indianapolis Colts assistant Clyde Christensen and Rutgers offensive coordinator Ron Prince.
