Lions finally cut a player that was arrested

National Football Post

Enough is enough for the Detroit Lions.

Two days after the team’s third player was arrested for the second time this offseason, the club pulled the plug on Aaron Berry. According to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press, the cornerback will be placed on waivers.

Berry was arrested at 2:30 a.m. Saturday after he was accused of pointing a gun at three individuals in Harrisburg, Pa. Of course, Berry was arrested last month and accused of DUI after he allegedly drove his BMW into two parked cars.

Defensive tackle Nick Fairley and running back Mikel Leshoure, the club’s top two picks in the 2011 draft, were each arrested twice earlier in the offseason. Berry, an undrafted rookie from Pittsburgh in 2010, is the one that gets sent packing though after a meeting with club officials.

But Berry was projected to be a starter, according to Birkett. That means the decision brings with it a new challenge for the club, which has struggled in the secondary. Veteran Alphonso Smith, third-round pick Bill Bentlet and Jacob Lacey, a pickup in free agency, could all figure in the mix as the team searches for a new starter.

Berry will be subject to potential discipline from the NFL if he joins another team.
