Lions' Fairley apologizes for legal issues on Facebook
Nick Fairley, the Detroit Lions defensive lineman who has had two recent run-ins with the law, apologized for his actions on his Facebook page on Friday.
"I want to personally apologize to my fans, teammates and the Detroit Lions organization for bringing this unwanted attention to our team," Fairley said on Facebook. "I recognize my actions were inexcusable and I personally need to uphold the expected standard of behavior of a professional athlete. I do not take for granted this opportunity and feel blessed every day to play in the NFL."
The former Auburn star was arrested almost two weeks ago in Mobile County, Ala., for alleged reckless driving, no proof of insurance and possessing an open container after reportedly being clocked at 100 mph.
One month earlier, he was arrested in Mobile, Ala., for marijuana possession.
Fairly was the 13th overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft by the Lions. He had 15 tackles and one sack in 10 games last season.
He is a Mobile native who helped Auburn win the BCS Championship Game in 2011 with three tackles for loss against the Oregon Ducks.
The Lions have had two other players, Mikel Leshoure and Johnny Culbreath, who have been arrested for alleged marijuana possession during the off-season.
