What's buzzing on Yahoo Sports:

Lions defensive end Willie Young nearly amputated finger

National Football Post

Detroit Lions defensive end Willie Young almost opted to have the middle finger on his left hand amputated after slicing it open three weeks ago.

Seriously.

Young considered having the finger amputated, according to Chris McCosky of the Detroit News, after injuring it while tackling Green Bay Packers running back James Starks. The finger was cut open at the top knuckle and was cut to the bone with some nerves severed, per the report.

“Two weeks ago I was like, 'Yeah, let's get rid of it,'" Young said. "But it's a little better now, so maybe I will keep it."

Young soaks the finger to help it heal and he has not missed a practice or a game since the injury, which still looks quite ugly.

"He's got the ugliest finger I ever saw," Lions defensive coordinator Gunther Cunningham said. "I told him that (Hall of Fame safety) Ronnie Lott cut his (finger) off, so cut it off."
