According to agent Mike McCartney via twitter, the Lions have reached an agreement with free agent defensive tackle Jason Jones. In Detroit, Jones will be reunited with head coach Jim Schwartz, who served as Jones’ defensive coordinator during his rookie season with the Tennessee Titans.
The 26-year-old flashed some serious upside during his four years in Tennessee, amassing 15.5 sacks in 49 games with the Titans. Jones departed Nashville for Seattle last offseason, where he racked up 3.0 sacks with the Seahawks in 12 games before heading back into the free agent pool.
The move comes just a few hours after the Lions reached an agreement with cornerback Chris Houston, who has spent the last three seasons in Detroit. The organization can now turn its attention to finalizing an agreement with free agent running back Reggie Bush.
Update: Adam Schefter says Jones' deal is for three years.
