Eagle Eye: How The New Eagles Fit In - PE.com
It’s finally here. After nine months of waiting for the 2014 NFL season, the month of September has arrived, the summer is over and the regular season kicks off this Thursday night. There’s nothing better than NFL football and in this space each and every week, as we do on "Eagles Game Plan," we will take a closer look at the game from the same angle the coaches use every week to evaluate their team - the All-22. To start off the year, I thought we would take a look at some of the new players on the team that made the 53-man roster over the weekend, and an example of what kind of value they can bring to the team this season. Let’s start with one of my favorite rookies on the roster, and one of the players many were surprised to see make the final roster - tight end Trey Burton.
Practice Squad Complete - Iggles Blitz
Williams played WR in high school and it is easier to learn that spot than CB so the fact he’s been moved to CB makes you wonder if he has bad hands. I’m sure Chip Kelly is fascinated by the size/speed combo that Williams offers. While the Eagles are trying to develop him, there is another possibility. Williams could be a versatile practice player. In preparation for Dallas, he could be Dez Bryant. For the Skins, DeSean Jackson. For the Cardinals, Patrick Peterson. It is hard to simulate the speed and athleticism of some WRs/CBs with normal practice squad guys. Williams could help there.
Season Predictions: What’s Next For Foles? - Birds 24/7
When Foles held onto the ball for 2.5 seconds or less, he was sacked twice. The other 26 came when he held it for 2.6 seconds or more. He was sacked an average of 2 1/2 times in 10 starts. They're trying to get that number down, mostly in the name of trying to keep Foles healthy. It will be about impossible for Foles to improve statistically but he's working on the nuances of the game that can lead to long-term success in this league. In that respect, he can actually take a step forward this year.
Are Eagles' super ambitions realistic? - Inquirer
Malcolm Jenkins didn't talk with Chip Kelly before he signed with the Eagles in March. The safety agreed to a contract less than an hour into free agency, so he wasn't afforded the opportunity to meet with his new coach. Jenkins had done his homework on Kelly and had reached out to Eagles players he knew before inking a three-year deal. But he wanted to know more about the coach's plan and he wanted to know if the Eagles were satisfied with just reaching the playoffs when he first sat down with Kelly.
5 major questions Eagles face heading into season - CSN Philly
Without going crazy in free agency, the Eagles tried to shore up their biggest weakness with smart, practical additions. Malcolm Jenkins and Nolan Carroll are expected to help the secondary, and the defensive line has more athleticism this year than last year. The dime package they’ve tinkered with involving Carroll is expected to shore up coverage problems against tight end-dominant offenses. But the key will be hitting quarterbacks. Right now, first-round pick Marcus Smith doesn’t look ready to come in and immediately impact the pass rush. The team’s two best pass rushers, Vinny Curry and Brandon Graham, are still coming off the bench. Despite their attempts to shore up coverage, the defense won’t be any better if opposing quarterbacks aren’t getting rattled.
