Two years after he was selected in the NHL draft, defenseman Nikita Nesterov signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the Tampa Bay Lightning, the team announced Tuesday.
The 20-year-old Russian was Tampa Bay's fifth-round pick in 2011, but he remained in his home country to play for Chelyabinsk Traktor in the Kontinental Hockey League.
He appeared in 35 regular-season games and 19 postseason for Traktor this year, registering four assists, all in the KHL playoffs. Overall in 45 career regular-season KHL games, he has one assist.
Nesterov participated in a Lightning development camp last year in Tampa.
