Lightning have injury problems at goalie

The SportsXchange

The Tampa Bay Lightning have some significant concerns at the goalie position as a result of injuries suffered on Thursday.

Backup goalie Anders Lindback is likely to be out at least until the Olympic break because of a lower-body injury he sustained in a collision with Ottawa Senators forward Cory Conacher in the second period, NHL.com reported Friday. Despite the injury, Lindback finished the game.

Lindback had replaced starter Ben Bishop, who is questionable for Saturday's game against the Montreal Canadiens because of a head injury, coach Jon Cooper said, according to the report.

Bishop was forced to leave Thursday's against the Ottawa Senators after being struck in the head by the skate of teammate Nikita Kucherov.

Bishop participated in the Lightning's practice Friday.

"It could have been a lot worse," Bishop said, according to the NHL.com report. "He kind of skimmed me. If he hit me direct on I don't know what would have happened.

"Hopefully I wake up in the morning and I feel OK. We'll have to wait and see what happens."

Bishop is third in the NHL with a .932 save percentage and fifth with a 2.01 goals-against average.

Cooper did not say which player would be called up from Norfolk of the American Hockey League, but it is likely to be Cedrick Desjardins. The Lightning may need to bring up two goalies from the AHL.
