Light makes retirement official

National Football Post

The New England Patriots recognized 11-year veteran tackle Matt Light on Monday at an official ceremony announcing his retirement.

"On the field, he was a tenacious competitor who had one of the toughest jobs," Patriots owner Robert Kraft said via NFL.com. "Every week he's (been) going up against the greatest athlete on the defensive (line) who was coming after our quarterback's blindside."

Light played in five Super Bowls with the Patriots and was praised by Coach Bill Belichick for his hard work and sense of humor.

"He had a great sense of when to tighten up and lighten up," Belichick said.

Light used a quote from Aristotle to close the proceedings, "We are what we repeatedly do -- excellence then is not an act, but a habit."
