Lewis might not practice this week

Ravens middle linebacker Ray Lewis might not return to practice this week even though he's expected back soon from a torn right triceps.

Lewis underwent surgery and is on injured reserve-designated to return.

He's eligible to start practicing Thursday and can't play in a game until Dec. 16 against the Denver Broncos.

"Ray Lewis is here, he's rehabbing," Ravens coach John Harbaugh said. "He's not practicing today and we'll just play it day-by-day as far as whether he practices or not. He's not imminent to return to play or anything like that, so to me, it's really a non-story. He'll go out there when he's ready to practice when the elbow holds up, and when that happens, we'll let you know."

Lewis is expected to return at some point before the end of the regular season.

"If he gets out to practice, it would be pretty amazing," Ravens running back Ray Rice said. "The guy, to me, is my modern day Superman. Why is he coming back? People ask that question all the time. He's coming back because he firmly believes that this is a team that can go ahead and do it.

"He does it for us. He's not doing it for the stats. He's not doing it for the fame. He's doing it solely because he loves the Ravens, he loves his teammates (and) he loves this organization."
