Kris Letang of the Pittsburgh Penguins, P.K. Subban of the Montreal Canadiens and Ryan Suter of the Minnesota Wild

were named the three finalists for the James Norris Memorial Trophy, awarded "to the defense player who demonstrates throughout the season the greatest all-round ability in the position."

Each is a finalist for the first time, and the winner will be announced during the Stanley Cup Final.

Letang scored 38 points in 35 games, finishing second among NHL defensemen despite missing more than a quarter of the regular season. He posted a plus-16 rating and led the Penguins with an average of 25:38 minutes of ice time per game.

Subban led NHL defensemen with 38 points in 42 games and with 26 points on power plays. He ranked second on the Canadiens in points, plus-minus (+12) and average ice time per game (23:14).

In his first season with the Wild, Suter led all NHL players in average ice time per game (27:16), including six games of 30-plus minutes in his final 11 contests. He ranked second among NHL defensemen in assists (28) and third in points (32). His uncle, Gary Suter, finished third in Norris Trophy balloting in 1988 with the Calgary Flames.
