Leshoure missing key reps in Lions backfield

The SportsXchange

ALLEN PARK, Mich. -- Running back Mikel Leshoure has yet to participate in any of the Detroit Lions' Organized Team Activities (OTAs) while he deals with a hamstring problem.

Meanwhile, Reggie Bush, Joique Bell, Theo Riddick and Steven Miller have been getting a lot of work in the place of the team's featured ballcarrier.

"He's been set back," coach Jim Schwartz said. "But it's nothing that will hold him back long-term. This time of year you are careful not to push anybody back too quickly."

Missing reps is the last thing Leshoure needs after missing his rookie season with Achilles surgery and enduring an inconsistent season last year.

"We've seen a lot of different cases where guys come back from a major injury, like an ACL or something, and then have hamstring or ankle issues. It is possible that could be the case," Schwartz said. "He had times last year when he played well, but he wasn't consistent over the course of the season. Whether that was because of the injury or the fact that it was essentially his rookie year, but he has to be consistent from week to week. That's the thing that is on his plate right now."
