Some 22 years after Romania turned up at the 1994 World Cup with matching bleach-blonde hair, the trend appears to be having something of a renaissance in the beautiful game.
The latest superstar to embrace the peroxide is Lionel Messi. The Barcelona superstar’s new look was revealed on Instagram over the weekend, and reaction has been somewhat mixed.
It’s perfectly possible that this is a little bit of fashion fun, but in the same manner as a man in his midlife crisis who might dabble with a drastic hair change, this might be indicative of something slightly more serious.
