Leafs goalie Reimer sidelined due to knee injury
Toronto Maple Leafs goalie James Reimer will be out at least a week due to a medial collateral ligament knee strain, the team announced Tuesday.
The Maple Leafs didn't reveal which knee Reimer hurt, but his left leg apparently was injured when the 24-year-old left Monday's game against the Philadelphia Flyers.
Reimer was hurt while making his 12th save in 13 shots Monday. At the four-minute mark of the second period, Reimer was helped off the ice shortly after making a save on a shot by Claude Giroux.
Ben Scrivens replaced Reimer and saved all but one of 33 shots directed at him. Toronto led 3-1 when Reimer exited, and the Leafs went on to post a 5-2 victory.
Reimer won't return sooner than the Leafs' Feb. 23 game against the Ottawa Senators. In 10 games (nine starts) this season, Reimer is 6-3 with a 2.31 goals-against average and a .929 save percentage.
Scrivens figures to take over as the regular goalie in Reimer's absence, and Jussi Rynnas likely will be called up from the AHL Toronto Marlies to back him up, according to the Toronto Star. Rynnas appeared in two games (one start) for the Leafs late last season, going 0-1 with a 4.24 GAA and an .825 save percentage.
Scrivens is 2-2 with a 2.56 GAA and a .913 save percentage this season in five games (four starts).
