LB Sean Lee signs six-year contract extension with Cowboys

The SportsXchange

Middle linebacker Sean Lee won't be going anywhere any time soon, having signed a six-year contract extension with the Dallas Cowboys, the team announced Wednesday.

The extension, which extends through the 2019 season, is worth a base pay of $42 million, according to the team's web site, but with incentives could climb to as much as $51 million over the life of the contract.

However, only $16 million is guaranteed, the team web site reported.

In a video posted with the story, Lee said, ''I'm extremely excited. I was blessed to be able to be drafted by a great franchise. To have an opportunity to be here a long time and hopefully compete for a Super Bowl is fantastic."

A second-round pick from Penn State in 2010, Lee is entering his fourth season in the NFL. A standout season in 2012 was cut short by a torn ligament in his right big toe. Even so, he still managed 77 tackles in the six games he did see action in.

In 2011, when he became a full-time starter, he led the Cowboys with 131 tackles, a whopping 52 more than any other defensive player, even though he played much of the second half of the season with a broken left wrist that was wrapped in a protective cast.
