Free agent linebacker Shawn Barber signed a three-year contract with the Houston Texans worth $5 million dollars on Tuesday.

Barber, who spent last season with the Philadelphia Eagles, visited the Texans and Tennessee Titans in the past week.

An eight-year veteran, Barber will back up Morlon Greenwood and likely spell Shantee Orr on passing downs or in the team's nickel and dime defensive units.

Barber, a fourth-round pick of the Washington Redskins in 1998, was in on 50 tackles for the Eagles last season.
