Layun rejects European move, for now

It’s been a whirlwind of a year for Miguel Layun and it seems he is looking for stability in 2014, at least for the first half of the year.

The Club America left wing back will be staying at the institution after an impressive 2013, playing down interest from Europe in order to nail down a place for the Mexican national team ahead of Brazil 2014.

“I talked about the (European) rumors with my agent and we decided that it wasn’t the right time to return,” said the former Atalanta player in a press conference. “The World Cup could open a lot of doors.”

The Mexican international added that it would be “risky” to move back to Europe because he’d have to adapt to a new style of play, with a coach who potentially wouldn’t know him very well.

The Spanish passport holder was the first Mexican to play in Serie A, but Layun only managed two first team appearances in Italy back in 2009.

Layun and Las Aguilas kick off their Clausura 2014 campaign on Saturday in the Estadio Azteca against Tigres.
