Erik Lamela is poised to snub interest from Manchester United and Manchester City to sign a new Roma deal before the end of the season, Goal.com can reveal.

The attacking midfielder’s contract talks are being closely monitored by the two Manchester clubs, who have enquired about his availability this summer.

City manager Roberto Mancini is a big admirer of Lamela’s pace and dribbling skills while United’s European scout Martin Ferguson – brother of Sir Alex – watched the 21-year-old score in Roma’s recent 2-1 win over Torino.

It is understood that the €30 million-rated Argentina international, whose current agreement expires in 2016, has been offered an improved five-year deal by Roma that will run until 2018.

Sources expect Lamela to put pen to paper imminently on the contract, which will hike his wages from €42,000-a-week to around €60,000-a-week.

It will be a boost for the Giallorossi, who regard Lamela as their biggest asset and the future of the club. He is also believed to be a favourite of Roma president James Pallotta.

Lamela, who plays in a wide forward role or behind the attacking spearhead, is the club’s leading scorer this season with 14 league goals.

He signed a five-year deal when he joined Roma in the summer of 2011 from River Plate in a deal worth €20m at today’s currency rates.
