The Los Angeles Lakers officially announced the signing of free agent center Chris Kaman on Friday.

Terms of the deal were not announced by the team, but, according to multiple reports, the 7-foot Kaman agreed to a one-year deal worth $3.2 million.

Kaman, a 10-year NBA veteran, averaged 11.8 points, 8.0 rebounds and 1.38 blocks over his career.

Last season, he played for the Dallas Mavericks and averaged 10.5 points and 5.6 rebounds in a career-low 20.7 minutes in 66 games, including 52 starts.

Kaman presumably will become the Lakers' starting center, taking the place of the departed Dwight Howard.

"We're pleased to be able to add a big man of Chris' caliber to the roster for the upcoming season," said Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak in a stamen released by the team. "He's a versatile center who defends well, goes hard to the glass and can score both in the paint and from mid-range while also being a high character guy and solid locker room presence."
