Lakers' Howard won't be ready for first exhibition game

Dwight Howard will not be ready to play in the Lakers' first exhibition game on Oct. 7 in Fresno against Golden State, the Lakers announced Thursday, according to the Orange County Register.

Howard, acquired from the Orlando Magic in the offseason, is rehabilitating from his April 20 spinal surgery.

It's unclear whether Howard will be available for the Lakers' regular-season opener on Oct. 30.

The Lakers have not provided updates on Howard's recent workouts, the Register reported. However, they did announce Howard would not be available for the first practice on Oct. 2 or the Oct. 7 exhibition opener.

The Lakers said Howard has had no setbacks during his rehab.
