Lakers' Bryant could make debut soon

Los Angeles Lakers guard Kobe Bryant could make his season debut Friday in Sacramento.

Bryant, coming back from a torn Achilles suffered in April, joined his teammates for a light practice Saturday.

He will not play Sunday against the Portland Trail Blazers, but the Lakers have three practices before Friday, and coach Mike D'Antoni said Bryant will be able to test his leg.

"I don't want to anticipate anything," D'Antoni said. "Those are days that he can work and see, re-evaluate how he feels after the three days and then make a decision going forward. That doesn't mean he will play Friday, doesn't mean he won't.

"We'll have three days of practice, and then we'll know better."

D'Antoni also said guard Steve Nash would return to the team Sunday and could return to practice next week if doctors clear him. Nash spent the week with his Canadian trainer, Rick Celebrini, rehabilitating a nerve problem in his back and will be re-evaluated by Lakers doctors early in the week.
