Lafayette needed a little nudge at the outset, but once the Leopards got going, Holy Cross could do little to stop them in a 77-54 route Wednesday night in the Patriot League tournament quarterfinals at Lafayette. The No. 2-seeded Leopards are the hottest team in the Patriot, winning their sixth straight game. Lafayette, which improved to 18-14 overall, will host Lehigh on Saturday, while Holy Cross ended its season at 12-18. The game was intriguing at the outset. Holy Cross held a 15-12 lead after the first five minutes of the game. The Leopards responded with a 16-0 run to take control of the game, holding Holy Cross scoreless for six minutes. Seth Hinrichs led Lafayette with 20 points, followed by 19 from Tony Johnson and 11 from Joey Ptasinski. Holy Cross received a game-high 22 points from Dave Dudzinski. Holy Cross couldn't deal with Lafayette's long-range game. The Leopards made 14 of 26 shots from beyond the 3-point line and were a rather strong 28 of 54 from the floor. Holy Cross, meanwhile, shot a dismal 18 of 52 for the game.
