LaBonte hospitalized after cycling accident

Former NASCAR champion Bobby LaBonte was spending Wednesday night in a North Carolina hospital after breaking three ribs in a cycling accident earlier in the day near his home of Trinity, N.C.

The 2000 Cup champion will miss Sunday's race at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Mike Bliss will take the wheel in his place in the Phoenix Racing team's No. 51.

The 49-year-old LaBonte had made a start in 704 consecutive races until that streak was snapped earlier this year at Kentucky. His streak began when he began driving full-time in the Cup series in 1993.

He has started 22 races this Cup season and has yet to record a top-10 finish.
