LA Galaxy president Chris Klein signs contract extension

A month after the LA Galaxy retained the services of Landon Donovan and Omar Gonzalez, the man who helped make those deals happen secured his own future with the club.

The Galaxy on Thursday signed president Chris Klein to a multi-year contract extension, just eight months after he took over the role. The 37-year-old served as senior director of the Galaxy's academy in 2011 and vice president of the club last year. Klein retired as a player in 2010 after logging 13 MLS seasons, including his final four with LA.

The two-time defending MLS Cup champion Galaxy this season have compiled a 13-10-5 record, good for fourth in the Western Conference. Under Klein, the front office has made a commitment to retaining its high-profile American talent, signing Donovan and Gonzalez to lucrative new contracts.

"We are pleased to have a long-term agreement in place with Chris, who in a short period of time has developed into one of the most respected executives in Major League Soccer,” said Dan Beckerman, president and CEO of AEG, which owns the Galaxy. "In addition to his tremendous soccer acumen and knowledge of the game, Chris has quickly acquired an extensive knowledge of our business, and is fast becoming one of the more well-rounded leaders in our sport."
