The Los Angeles Galaxy overpowered the San Jose Earthquakes 3-0 to keep pressure on Real Salt Lake in the Supporters Shield race.
LA caught San Jose on the counter in the 26th minute to start the scoring. A 'Quakes corner was cleared, and Marcelo Sarvas passed to Robbie Keane, who played in Landon Donovan over the top on a breakaway, and Donovan was clinical in his finish past Jon Busch.
Robbie Keane picked up two goals for himself after that. He slotted home a 43rd minute penalty after Steven Beitashour tripped Gyasi Zardes in the 18-yard box, and then did wonderfully to half-volley in Sean Franklin's head-down of Zardes' cross.
Unlike their previous meeting, there was to be no late revival for San Jose. Back in eighth, the NorCal side is five points short of a playoff berth. LA is in second, five points off the pace but with a pair of games in hand.
