An early goal gave the LA Galaxy a 1-0 win away to the Vancouver Whitecaps at BC Place, just the Whitecaps' second home loss this season.

The Galaxy didn't wait long to open the scoring. Given too much time by the Vancouver defense, Landon Donovan dribbled through the middle and uncorked a powerful shot from outside the box which found the back of the net.

Jaime Penedo ensured the result with a fantastic late save. Although Kekuta Manneh's shot beat the diving goalkeeper, it hit the post and fell to Jordan Harvey in front of goal. Harvey seemed like he had only to tap in to equalize, but an acrobatic Penedo seemingly came from nowhere to palm away on the goal line.

Three points puts LA into second place in the West. Following Dallas' draw against San Jose, the Whitecaps fall out of the playoff spots into sixth, although Vancouver does hold a game in hand.
