L.A. Galaxy's Juninho, Keane Up for AT&T Goal of the Week for Week 29: Fan Reaction

Yahoo Contributor Network

In Week 29, there were some great goals in Major League Soccer. Both Juninho and Robbie Keane scored a brace in the L.A. Galaxy's 4-2 victory over Toronto FC. Now, both Galaxy players have been nominated for the AT&T Goal of the Week for Week 29.

Juninho's Goal

In the last six games, Juninho has scored six goals, including two multi-goal games. In Week 26, the Brazilian midfielder was nominated for another goal of the week but his teammate David Beckham took the honor. Like many of Juninho's goals, this one was taken from over 30-yards out. Juninho had already netted a beautiful free kick in the 11th minute. However, his second one was a stunner. Sean Franklin gave the ball to the 23-year-old who ripped it into the upper corner. The goal exhibited great power and placement. Juninho is quickly becoming one of the Galaxy's most valuable players.

Keane's Goal

In order to score his goal, Keane had to do some fancy footwork. Even with four TFC players in close proximity, Keane was able to get around the defense and beat the keeper. Still, I'll have to admit that some of Toronto's defense were ball watching. Overall, Keane showed the best skill. Out of all the nominations, the Irish striker had the most pressure on him. This was Keane's 14th goal of the season.

The Competition

In week 29, there were plenty of long distance stunners. Along with Juninho's blast, Danny Mwanga (Portland Timbers) is nominated for his rocket from outside of the box. I have to admit, I was a little more impressed with Franck Songo'o 40-yard-run down the field before he passed it to Mwanga. Real Salt Lake's Javier Morales is on the ballot for his free kick. Personally, I thought Juninho's free kick goal against TFC was better. Finally, San Jose's Simon Dawkins' early goal from outside the area was almost as impressive as Juninho's.

Lately, it's been difficult for me to choose a goal of the week winner. As of September 25 in the early morning, the race is closest between the Galaxy's Juninho and RSL's Javier Morales. It's early in the week and things could easily change.
