L.A. Galaxy’s Mike Magee Up for MLS Goal of the Week: Fan’s Reaction

Yahoo Contributor Network

The Los Angeles Galaxy's regular season finale against the Seattle Sounders had plenty of exciting moments. Fredy Montero and Robbie Keane hit the woodwork. Josh Saunders denied several good shots. Overall, there were 36 goal scoring attempts from both teams. Yet, in the end, there was only one goal. Now, Mike Magee's game winning goal is nominated for the AT&T Goal of the Week for Week 33.

Magee's Goal

Magee started on the bench and came in for Edson Buddle in the 75th minute. Less than ten minutes later, he did a give-and-go with Keane. Then, he sent in a low, curling shot to win the game. Magee's goal enabled the Galaxy to defeat the Sounders; something they haven't been able to do all season.

His Competition

Sporting Kansas City's Jacob Peterson is nominated for his sliding shot versus the Philadelphia Union. Representing the Chicago Fire, Patrick Nyarko delivered a long range stunner. Colorado Rapids' Kamani Hill took some space and sent in a low shot from distance. Finally, FC Dallas' Jackson scored off a knee goal. It was definitely the most creative goal on the ballot. Right now, I'm torn between Nyarko's shot and Magee's. Both had a good amount of pressure but still managed to deliver a beautiful shot.

A Glimpse into the Postseason

I'm hoping Magee's goal is just a glimpse into the postseason. In 2011, the 28-year-old scored three postseason goals. He tallied the lone goal in the Galaxy's first leg of the conference semifinal against the New York Red Bulls. In the second leg, he scored again to help give the Galaxy a 3-1 aggregate victory over New York. In the Western Conference Championship against Real Salt Lake, Magee headed in another to inspire a 3-1 victory and powered the Galaxy into the 2011 MLS CUP. Magee may have only scored five goals in the regular season. However, I wouldn't be surprised if he was an impact player in the playoffs.

The Galaxy will start their MLS Cup run on Nov. 1 when they play the Vancouver Whitecaps at the Home Depot Center. Make some magic, Mike Magee!
