Both league scoring champions playing in the MasterCard Memorial Cup are injured. Calgary Hitmen centre Brandon Kozun has an injured right foot.
"Kozun hasn’t been on skates since he took his turn hoisting the Ed Chynoweth Cup during Friday’s post-game celebrations. Before that, it was when he limped off the ice after being pushed into the boards skates first early in the second period of the 4-1 win over the Tri-City Americans.
" 'I’ll be ready,' vowed the five-foot-nine, 164-pounder, who had a walking cast on one foot and a sandal on the other as he went through another rush of media interviews. 'I'll probably skate Thursday. Nothing’s wrong, I’ll be okay.' " (Calgary Herald)
This is maybe more something to have on mental file ahead of Calgary's tournament opener against the Moncton Wildcats -- who still don't know if Quebec Major Junior Hockey League scoring champ Nicolas Deschamps will play in the tournament -- on Saturday afternoon.
Kozun won the Canadian Hockey League scoring title with 107 points, and posted another 30 in 23 playoff games, 11 more than any other forward in Calgary's balanced attack. His health probably will be a major story.
