Kohl: New arena or no team in Milwaukee

The SportsXchange

BMO Harris Bradley Center turns 25 this month, and the arena no longer suits the needs of the NBA's Milwaukee Bucks.

Owner Herb Kohl said Monday at the team's media day session that he is confident the city will build a new arena after incoming NBA commissioner Adam Silver called the antiquated venue unfit for the Bucks.

"At the end of the day, compared to other modern arenas in the league, this arena is a few hundred-thousand square feet too small," Silver said two weeks ago in Milwaukee. "It doesn't have the sort of back-of-house space you need ... doesn't have the kinds of amenities we need."

Kohl said the decision for Milwaukee isn't complicated: stadium deal or no franchise.

"In order to keep the Bucks, we have to get a facility," he said. "We're going to have both in the future or we're going to have neither."

The arena is the home venue for the Milwaukee Admirals of the American Hockey League and Marquette University men's basketball.
