The Wednesday, Oct. 17 edition of WWE Main Event saw Kofi Kingston take on The Miz for the Intercontinental Championship. The match on Wednesday was a rematch of a non-title match from Monday Night Raw earlier in the week. The match on Raw saw Kofi Kingston deliver a solid kick to the face to The Miz to score the victory. Kingston would be able to keep up the momentum on Main Event as he was able to score another victory over The Miz, this time winning the Intercontinental Championship. This result could be considered rather shocking because of the quick rise up the singles ranks for Kingston and the rapid decline of The Miz.
The title victory at Main Event marks the fourth time that Kofi Kingston has held the Intercontinental Championship. While no one would disagree that Kingston has the credentials to win the prestigious title, it's shocking to see how quickly he was able to win the title. Kingston has spent most of the past year participating in tag team matches. Kingston has won the Tag Team Championship twice, once with Evan Bourne and another time with R-Truth. Kingston and R-Truth were actually part of the Tag Team Tournament taking place over the past month to determine the number one contenders for the title. Once Kingston and R-Truth were eliminated from the tournament, there both went back to singles competition. That means that Kofi Kingston went from a tag team wrestler to the Intercontinental Champion in only a few weeks.
The rise of Kofi Kingston probably says more about The Miz than anyone else. The WWE would have never decided to give Kingston the title so quickly if they were happy with The Miz's performance. The Miz has held the WWE Championship and was once one of the biggest heels in the company, but he appears to becoming more of an afterthought each week. It appears that the WWE is either deciding to turn The Miz into more of a personality and less of a wrestler, like they did with Matt Stryker a few years ago, or they are trying to build a nice feud between him and Kofi Kingston. If the Miz does not see a rematch at the Hell in a Cell, then The Miz's glory days with the WWE are over.
