The Georgia Dome is one of the most famous stadiums in the south. The stadium has been home to the NCAA Men's Final Four and National Championship, the 1996 Olympics, professional wrestling events and is home to the Atlanta Falcons. For the upcoming season, the Falcons will look to continue their string of recent success by adding a victory or two in the playoffs. During their recent success, their fans have gotten behind the team and of course, the excitement for the upcoming game means increased tailgating presence. With a red-hot start to the 2012 NFL season, Atlanta Falcons fans will surely be heading to the stadium a little earlier each Sunday to show their support.
For those looking to attend the Georgia Dome, what do you need to know the most about tailgating before a game?
Location: Georgia Dome
Address: One Georgia Dome Drive, Atlanta, GA., 30313
Hours: Lots are usually open approximately three hours before kickoff
What's allowed and not allowed?
Tailgating is permitted prior to any event at the Georgia Dome in all flat parking lots. It is prohibited in campus multi-level garages. Vehicles may use just one parking spot and tailgating equipment may not extend beyond the parking space, or impede other vehicles driving through the lot. A parking space is not allowed to be used for chairs, grills, coolers or any other tailgating equipment, but grills are allowed to be used within your spot.
Tailgating is confined to the area directly behind your vehicle and adjacent landscaped areas are common areas and may not be claimed exclusively. In terms of what food and drink is allowed, just about anything goes, just so long that the products are legal. Sorry moonshine lovers.
Just like tailgating at any professional sports stadium, use your best judgment. While authorities won't hassle you about drinking before the game, don't go overboard. Too much alcohol consumption could lead to the police intervening and taking you away from the stadium in the back of a cruiser, keeping you away from another Atlanta "W."
