Forward Kurt Thomas was waived by the New York Knicks, who are expected to sign 28-year-old Solomon Jones to fill the roster spot. Thomas, 40, remains sidelined with a foot injury and is guaranteed the remainder of his salary. Solomon averaged 15.8 points and 10.4 rebounds in the Chinese Basketball Association. He has NBA experience with the Clippers and Hornets. "Once it became clear that he would not be able to return this season, and due to a rash of injuries to our big men, we felt that it was important for us to free-up a spot on our roster," general manager Glen Grunwald said. "We thank Kurt for all that he has done. I have the utmost respect for Kurt as a player and as a man." The Knicks aren't certain when Marcus Camby, Amar'e Stoudemire and Rasheed Wallace might be available. None of the trio of big men is a guarantee for the first round of the playoffs scheduled to begin April 20.
