Knicks' Smith fined for flopping

New York Knicks guard J.R. Smith was fined $5,000 by the NBA on Friday for flopping during Game 1 of the series against the Indiana Pacers.

Smith got the call when he acted as though he was hit hard by the Pacers David West when trying to get through a West pick. Even though West was called for a foul on the play, the league ruled that Smith flopped.

During the regular season, players get a warning for flopping before being fined on the next offense. There is no warning in the playoffs, and fines are handed out the first time a player is cited for flopping.
