Knicks record Melo's conversations on court
The New York Knicks recorded on-court conversations around forward Carmelo Anthony during last Friday's game against Chicago after he was suspended for an incident with Boston's Kevin Garnett.
Owner James Dolan ordered two microphones to be placed on opposite ends of the court in an attempt to catch any trash-talking going on around Anthony, the Newark Star-Ledger reported. The league confirmed the story.
ESPN.com reported that the Knicks weren't trying to spy on Anthony but that the microphones were put in place to protect him. Tim Frank, the NBA's senior vice president of basketball operations, said it's not a violation of league policy.
The microphones remained in place for Sunday's home game against New Orleans.
The Knicks had no comment on the recordings.
On Monday, coach Mike Woodson said, "I heard about it, but I don't know about all of that."
Anthony was suspended for one game after he confronted Garnett over what he considered an insulting comment during a game against the Celtics the previous week in Madison Square Garden. Anthony waited by Boston's team bus for Garnett.
