Knicks agree to 10-day deal with Martin

The SportsXchange

Free agent forward Kenyon Martin has agreed to a 10-day contract with the New York Knicks, the team announced Thursday.

Martin has yet to play this season after averaging 5.2 points and 4.3 rebounds in 42 games with the Los Angeles Clippers last season.

"We've always liked Kenyon," Knicks general manager Ernie Grunwald told ESPNNewYork.com. "He's a great competitor and a good defender and he's played with number of our players on the Knicks (including Carmelo Anthony and J.R. Smith). ... We're just looking forward to adding another good defender who can help us in our quest this season."

To make room for Marin, the Knicks traded Ronnie Brewer to Oklahoma City for a second-round pick.

Grunwald said Martin should report next week and finalize the contract. The Knicks were looking for inside help with Rasheed Wallace (left foot stress fracture) and Marcus Camby (left foot plantar fascia) sidelined recently.
