Klose, Podolski, Draxler to lead depleted Germany against USA

With Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund playing in the Champions League final, and the Bavarians also having a place in the DFB Pokal final, Germany was always going to be forced to bring a depleted squad to face the U.S. national team in their friendly on June 2. That has been confirmed and then some, with the release of Joachim Low's roster on Thursday.

Miroslav Klose, Lukas Podloski and Julian Draxler will be some of the big names representing Die Mannschaft when Germany meets the USA at RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C., in Jurgen Klinsmann's first match against his native side.

The likes of Bayern's Bastian Schweinsteiger, Mario Gomez, Manuel Neuer, Thomas Muller, Toni Kroos, Philipp Lahm, Holger Badstuber and Jerome Boateng and Dortmund's Mario Gotze, Marco Reus, Mats Hummels, Marcel Schmelzer and Ilkay Gundogan have all been left behind, with their club commitments preventing them from joining Low's traveling squad. Dortmund's Kevin Grosskruetz and Sven Bender were included, though.

Bayern and Dortmund square off for Champions League glory on May 25, while the Bavarians also play against Stuttgart in the DFB Pokal final on June 1. Real Madrid also has a conflict, preventing the likes of Mesut Ozil and Sami Khedira from taking part in the friendly.

Should Klose play against the USA, he would have a chance to equal or pass Gerd Muller's Germany record of 68 international goals. Klose currently sits on 67.

Here is the Germany squad in full:

Goalkeepers: Rene Adler (Hamburg), Ron-Robert Zieler (Hannover 96), Marc Andre ter-Stegen (Borussia Mönchengladbach)

Defenders: Dennis Aogo (Hamburg), Marcell Jansen (Hamburg), Heiko Westermann (Hamburg), Andreas Beck (Hoffenheim), Benedikt Höwedes (Schalke 04), Per Mertesacker (FC Arsenal), Philipp Wollscheid (Bayer Leverkusen).

Midfielders: Sven Bender (Borussia Dortmund), Julian Draxler (Schalke), Roman Neustädter (Schalke), Kevin Grosskreutz (Borussia Dortmund), Aaron Hunt (Werder Bremen), Nicolai Müller (Mainz 05), Stefan Reinartz (Bayer Leverkusen), Sidney Sam (Bayer Leverkusen), Lars Bender (Bayer Leverkusen), Max Kruse (SC Freiburg)

Forwards: Miroslav Klose (Lazio), Lukas Podolski (Arsenal), Andre Schürrle (Bayer Leverkusen)
