Kljestan's Anderlecht put the finishing touches on a successful title defense with a 1-1 draw against Zulte-Waregem Sunday, winning the Jupiler League crown for a second straight season. Kljestan, who went the distance in the playoff finale and scored a goal in the penultimate match that helped Anderlecht seal at least a top-two berth, will play in the Champions League group stage for a second consecutive year by virtue of winning the league.
Honduras international and former D.C. United standout Andy Najar, who completed a winter transfer to Anderlecht and spent most of his time with the club's U-21 side after his move, will also get the chance to compete on Europe's elite stage.
The championship was in the balance for a few minutes, after Zulte-Waregem's Jens Naessens scored in the 56th minute and momentarily had his side ahead of Anderlecht by a point in the table. Sought-after transfer target Lucas Biglia leveled the scored three minutes later, though, to reclaim the top position, and Anderlecht survived an 80th-minute red card to Cheikhou Kouyate to earn the winners' medals yet again.
