LOS ANGELES -- Wingers Tanner Pearson and Jeff Carter scored a goal and an assist and goaltender Jonathan Quick made 17 saves as the Los Angeles Kings defeated the Phoenix Coyotes 4-0 Wednesday.

The Kings (45-26-6) bounced back from a home loss to Minnesota on Monday and have won 15 of their last 19 games.

Up 2-0 going into the third period, the Kings sealed the game with two goals in the space of 40 seconds. Center Jeff Carter scored at 9:10 of the third period with Pearson getting the lone assist when he snapped a shot past goalie Thomas Griess for his team-leading 27th goal of the season. Center Anze Kopitar potted a power-play goal at 9:50 with Phoenix forward Shane Doan in the box for tripping with winger Marian Gaborik and Alec Martinez earning assists.

The win clinched a playoff spot for the Kings for the fifth consecutive year and was the 1,500th victory in franchise history. The shutout was the sixth of the campaign for Quick while Kopitar has 22 points in his last 21 games as he chipped in with a goal and an assist.

The Kings started quickly on Pearson's third goal of the season at 1:20 of the first period. Phoenix defenseman Zbynek Michalek threw an errant pass that Carter intercepted and spotted Pearson streaking in on the right side for a one-timer from 33 feet.

Los Angeles doubled its lead on defenseman Drew Doughty's power play goal at 2:27 of the middle frame. Doughty snapped a shot past Griess off a pass from defenseman Alec Martinez with Kopitar drawing the secondary assist.

Griess held the lead at 2-0 going into the final frame when he stoned winger Jeff Carter on a breakaway as the second period ended.

Phoenix (36-27-13) lost its third straight game and failed to move past the Dallas Stars for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference. The teams are tied with 85 points apiece but the Stars hold two games in hand with five games remaining for the Coyotes. Griess stopped 28 Los Angeles shots.

Yandle's current streak is the second longest in franchise history. ... Los Angeles did not dress D Matt Greene and LW Dwight King. ... Kings D Alec Martinez continues to have a strong second half of the season. Martinez had been a healthy scratch multiple times before the Olympic break but his offense has been integral in the Kings' strong play down the stretch. His 11 goals this season are surpassed by only nine other defenseman around the league. ... Los Angeles embarks on a four-game road trip starting Thursday in San Jose before returning home to close out the season April 12 against Anaheim.
