Kings 2, Devils 0

NEWARK, N.J. -- Left wing Dwight King broke a scoreless tie with 6:52 remaining in the third period and goaltender Ben Scrivens made 26 saves to give the Los Angeles Kings a 2-0 victory over the New Jersey Devils on Friday night at Prudential Center.

King's sixth goal of the season came off a redirect of a point shot by Kings defenseman Jake Muzzin. King parked himself in front of Devils goaltender Cory Schneider and tipped the puck through both his and Schneider's legs.

Center Anze Kopitar added an empty-net goal with 2.9 seconds remaining in the third period.

Schneider stopped 19 shots, and he has received two goals of support in his past three starts.

The Kings have won four of five and are 2-0-1 on a four-game road trip that ends Sunday against the Rangers in New York.

The loss snapped the Devils' four-game stretch (3-0-1) without a regulation loss.

The first two periods were mostly uneventful, but Scrivens was at his best holding the Devils scoreless during the first 40 minutes.

The backup stopped 12 shots in the first period, which at one point saw the Devils hold a 10-2 edge in shots. The Kings defeated the New York Islanders 3-2 on Thursday night and looked every bit like a team playing the second half of a road back-to-back game.

The Devils had just six shots in the second period, but left wing Jaromir Jagr had the best opportunity of the game to score up until that point. He was left alone in the slot during a Devils power play, but Scrivens got just enough of the wrist shot with his catching glove to keep it out of the net.

Schneider faced a mere 12 shots over the first two periods, most of which were from the outside.

Five minutes into the third period, center Adam Henrique nearly gave the Devils the lead, but Scrivens sprawled to stifle the backhand attempt on the doorstep.
