Yahoo Contributor Network

Kevin Gausman has led the LSU Tigers to an appearance in the 2012 NCAA Tournament Super Regionals with a record of 11-1 and a 2.72 ERA. On Monday, June 4, Gausman was selected by the Baltimore Orioles with the fourth overall pick in the MLB First-Year Player Draft. The Tigers have had several players drafted by the Orioles in the past, including two other first-round selections. Below is a look at all Tigers who have been picked by Baltimore.

2012 Kevin Gausman, P

Drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers after high school, Gausman chose to attend LSU instead of going pro. He finished his freshman season with a 5-6 record, but went 3-1 with a 1.17 ERA in his final four starts, setting the stage for his dominant sophomore year in 2012. The Tigers have been carried by starting pitching for most of the season, with Gausman leading the way, and are a couple of wins away from another College World Series appearance.

2001 Mike Fontenot, IF

Fontenot was also drafted in the first round (19th pick) as a sophomore after hitting .347 during his LSU career. He has had a respectable professional career and has a .265 average, playing for the Chicago Cubs, San Francisco Giants and Philadelphia Phillies. After being traded by the Orioles for Sammy Sosa in 2005, Fontenot was able to join his former LSU teammate Ryan Theriot in the Cubs infield.

1993 Harry Berrios, OF

The Tigers won the College World Series in 1993 and had six players drafted, led by Berrios, who was picked in the eighth round. An All-American at LSU, Berrios never made it to the major leagues. Playing in the minor leagues and with independent teams, he hit .297 with 174 home runs over 14 seasons.

1989 Ben McDonald, P

Following an exceptional college run, McDonald was picked with the first overall draft selection. A Golden Spikes Award winner, McDonald was pitching in Baltimore by the end of the 1989 season. He spent seven seasons with the Orioles and two with the Milwaukee Brewers, finishing 78-70 with a 3.91 ERA.

1987 Jack Voigt, OF

Voigt was a ninth-round pick and made his Orioles debut in 1992, hitting .272 over parts of four seasons. He later played for the Texas Rangers, Milwaukee Brewers (with McDonald in 1997) and Oakland Athletics.

1968 William Hunt, SS

Hunt, the first LSU player to be drafted by Baltimore, was picked in the seventh round and then drafted again in 1969 by the Cleveland Indians in the ninth round. He has no professional game appearances recorded.
