Kevin Durant's 34 sparks Thunder past Bobcats

Automated Insights

Kevin Durant scored 34 points and recorded 12 rebounds to help the Oklahoma City Thunder edge the Charlotte Bobcats, 89-85. Oklahoma City (24-5) has now won nine of their last 10 games.

Durant finished 14-28 (2-6 from three-point range) and 4-6 from the free throw line. Other key performers for Oklahoma City were Serge Ibaka with 12 points and 9 rebounds, and Reggie Jackson with 10 points and 6 rebounds. On 6-17 shooting (2-4 on 3-point attempts), in addition to going 4-6 from the free throw line, Kemba Walker scored 18 points for Charlotte in the loss. He also registered 7 assists. Al Jefferson chipped in 16 points and 11 rebounds and Josh McRoberts finished with 13 points and 7 assists.

As expected, the Bobcats offense did not have its best game, struggling to score against the stingy Thunder defense that ranks first in the league with a defensive efficiency of 97.7. They registered just .940 points per possession in this game, and rank 29th in the NBA with an offensive efficiency of 96.4 on the season. The Bobcats had a myriad of misses, most of which they were unable to corral (combining an eFG% of 43.1% with an OR% of 19.1). When falling below 45% and 20% in those respective categories, they are winless (0-3) this season. The Thunder, conversely, are undefeated (2-0) when holding the opposition below those marks.

Charlotte (14-16) couldn't get consecutive victories after beating Milwaukee on Monday.

Coming up, the Thunder take on the Houston Rockets, who are 20-11 on the season. The Bobcats meet the Atlanta Hawks, currently sitting at 16-13 this year. The Bobcats have a 0-1 record against Atlanta this season.
