Keshia Knight Pulliam Wasn't 'Submissive' Enough for Her Ex, Says Source

Keshia Knight Pulliam may have been too independent for new husband Ed Hartwell, a source tells PEOPLE.

Hartwell filed for divorce and demanded she undergo a paternity test just one week after The Cosby Show alum announced she was pregnant, and the insider says it may be because they have different views on marriage.

“The couple is just not able to agree or see eye-to-eye on anything,” the source says. “Hartwell is very old-fashioned in marital beliefs and how couples should make decisions together, and it seems Keshia is more interested in remaining a successful independent business woman than baking cookies and being a submissive wife.”

The source adds, “This is probably just a case of a child star used to going through life baking her cake, having her cake and eating her cake too.”

A source close to Hartwell previously told PEOPLE the former NFL star “doesn’t have any evidence of her cheating” but wants a paternity test because he is concerned about the timing of the pregnancy.

“It’s just that he had told her he wanted to wait before having a baby and things got really bad between them and then she pops up pregnant,” says the source.

“He even told her he didn’t want to release the bump picture so soon, but she did it anyway,” adds the insider.

Hartwell, 38, and Pulliam, 37, became engaged on New Year’s Eve, and the actress gushed about the news in an Instagram post.

The two tied the knot weeks later in a small wedding at the actress’ home, she said on her podcast Kandidly Keshia earlier this year.

“It was my dream,” she said. “We did it literally in our living room in our home… We invited people. They had no clue they were coming to a wedding.”
