Keselowski issues apology, winner Ragan accepts
Upon further review, reigning NASCAR champion Brad Keselowski takes back the accusation that Talladega Superspeedway winner David Ragan lined up in the wrong position for the final restart to win Sunday's race.
In a statement published on his website and through his personal Twitter feed, Keselowski said he learned he was out of line by going back to the tape to review Sunday's race.
"I owe David Ragan and his fans an apology," Keselowski wrote. "I placed blame on David Ragan for the restart lineup confusion when it wasn't his fault."
Ragan claimed his first NASCAR Sprint Cup victory taking the green-white-checkered flag by coming from the outside -- and 10th position -- on the final restart of the race. Keselowski wanted that position but was placed ninth on the inside of the track. He immediately took to Twitter after the race, asking rhetorically, "I should be happy when think someone cheats the game and costs you a win?!?!"
Keselowski called Ragan before issuing the statement Tuesday. Ragan confirmed as much in a statement through Front Row Motorsports.
"Brad gave me a call earlier and I appreciated that. Everything's cool between us," said Ragan. "I was disappointed right after the race when I saw the comments he'd made, but it shows maturity on his part to re-evaluate the situation and make an apology. Now that he's got all the information, I'm glad we both see things the same way."
