Kershaw to start Dodgers opener

Los Angeles Dodgers manager Don Mattingly announced Saturday that left-handed ace Clayton Kershaw will take the mound Opening Day against the San Francisco Giants on April 1 at Dodger Stadium.

Kershaw will start the Dodgers' season-opener for the third straight year.

In the 2011 season-opener, Kershaw pitched seven scoreless innings in a 1-0 win over the Giants at Dodger Stadium. He won the NL Cy Young Award that year.

In last year's opener, Kershaw threw three scoreless innings before exiting with flu-like symptoms. The Dodgers defeated the host San Diego Padres 5-3. He went 14-9 in 2012 with a 2.53 ERA.
